Taking Health (VERY) Seriously

Updated: Jul 30

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) created the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) by partnering with individual breed clubs to research and maintain information on the health issues prevalent in specific breeds. OFA established a recommended protocol for breed-specific health screenings. Dogs tested in accordance with that protocol are recognized with a CHIC number and certification.

Aariel Ridgebacks supports this program and ensures health information on our dogs is stored and accessible in these databases. We see it as our way to ensure the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed will be e better off. It gives our puppy buyers a peace of mind knowing that their puppy has come from the best possible health parentage.

A Rhodesian Ridgeback achieves CHIC Certification if it has been screened for every disease recommended by the parent club for that breed (RRCUS for Ridgebacks) and those results are publicly available in the database.

Here is a list of Aariel dogs and their CHIC Numbers with links to their results

The link also allows you to review results and health results of parentage, siblings and offspring and often includes results of DNA testing such as DEGENERATIVE MYELOPATHY, EARLY ONSET DEAFNESS, JUVENILE MYOCLONIC EPILEPSY.
